From the outset, CMK specialized in small displacement classes (50 cm³, 60 cm³, 100 cm³) for off-road competition. In its early days, the company stood out because Otto Kohler designed and built the frames himself, while the engines were based on modified Zündapp models equipped with CMK's own cylinder kits (Gruppi termici).
