Scorpa is starting series production of its first model, the Scorpa Works 294. The model is powered by a single-cylinder two-stroke engine from Austrian manufacturer Rotax.
Beta-France SARL is founded in Paris. The previous French importer, SIMA, had only taken over the import of Husqvarna to France a year earlier.
French company SIMA (Marcel Seurat), which was the general distributor for Ossa from 1974 to 1980 and currently represents Cagiva, MV Agusta, and Husqvarna, will also become the importer for GasGas.
Last year's world champion team, Greg Albertyn Venko Honda, owned by Jan de Groot, will officially be responsible for Kawasaki's factory entries in the Motocross World Championship. The team will now operate under the name Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT).
Claudio De Carli founds De Carli Racing. He is responsible for Yamaha's World Championship entries.

Roger de Coster becomes executive editor at US magazine Dirt Bike Magazine. He writes monthly columns ("Classic De Coster") and is also active as a test rider. He enjoys objectively evaluating motorcycles of all brands, which gives him a new perspective on the technology of the 1990s.
